June 1, 2018 was a good hair day for 187 children living in and around Museo Sang Bata Sa Negros in Sagay City, Negros Occidental. For the past 12 years since 2007, every first of the month of June, the Museo has been giving free haircuts to children of all ages some as young as 1.5 years of age in preparation for school opening. There were years were the free haircut day had to be extended for 2 more days due to the big turnout of children needing a haircut. Free haircut day is part of the Basic Hygiene program of the Museo. A short lecture and demonstration on proper care for the hair, the importance of daily bath, and even the correct way of brushing one’s teeth is presented to the children. To date 2, 287 children have participated in this program
